REAL volunteers at the Portland Marathon
|
PORTLAND MARATHON AND KIDS’ RUN 2010On October 9th and 10th, 2010, REAL volunteers braved the dreary Portland weather to volunteer at the Portland Marathon and Kids’ Run. On the first day, we checked in and handed out medals to every child in the three races that ran through the morning. When the event finished, we helped out with the deflation of giant bounce tents and the cleanup of the Lincoln High School field. The next day, REAL volunteers served
as course monitors towards the end of the 26-mile course, encouraging participants to continue on and making sure cars didn’t run over them.
At the end of our shift we helped change the course for the later finishers and helped pick up the hundreds of cones that were found in our area.
In exchange for our assistance, Portland Marathon event and organizers make a donation to REAL.
This year, we would love to help out at the 2011 Portland Marathon. If you would like to help, please contact us!
