REAL at India Day at Pioneer Square in Portland Oregon

INDIA DAY 2010

On the hottest day of August, India Day took place in Pioneer Courthouse Square. We had volunteers who walked around in the heat selling water bottles all day, and their hard work truly paid off. In addition to water bottles, we also sold handmade earrings. To attract people of all ages to our booth, we set up a large spinning wheel and, for 75 cents, let people spin it to win a small prize. REAL also tried to promote environmental friendliness by setting up recycling bins around Pioneer Place and asking visitors to recycle plastic water bottles, glass bottles, and cans, which was also quite successful. We even had volunteers helping ICA out in stage management and in ICA’s cultural booth. Overall it was a very busy day for REAL volunteers! REAL also used India Day as an opportunity to create community awareness about the need to support education and literacy in rural India.

India Day 2011

On Sunday August 21st, 2011, where will you be? At India Day, of course! REAL always has a booth in Pioneer Courthouse Square, selling water bottles to thirsty people wandering through the food carts and watching the talented performers below them. Homemade earring will be sold, as well as authentic products brought back from India. This year we are short on volunteers, as many of our youth (and our most energetic participants) will be out of town on various escapades. If you would like to help us raise money, and want to experience Indian culture first-hand, please sign up to be apart of our fundraiser! We would greatly appreciate it!
